Catharsis with New Opportunities
By Snorri Ásmundsson

In 2004, running as a Presidential Candidate of Iceland, Snorri Ásmundsson wrote:

We Icelanders are outstanding in most fields, including the art of surviving famine, famine being nature's way of separating the chaff from the grain. Many have pointed at Snćfellsjökull as one of the strongest energy centers in the world and of course we utilize this power, though it is not harnessable in traditional ways.

I have sometimes felt that the natural resources of this land have been given position over the wealth of human resources here available. I find that disappointing, as we Icelanders are rich with innumerable talents yet to be tapped…

Here is also an opportunity for Icelanders to become an example for the world, proving that positive spiritual and intellectual wealth is just as important as the economic kind.

I care about all of our people, and this spark of love fills me with a desire to open my arms wide and share blessings, at each and every possible and impossible opportunity.

In October 2006, the Icelandic-born artist continued:

God´s chosen people.

Our society is controlled by capitalism and greed is its force. Capitalism is the religion of our time and the wealthier you are, the closer you are to God. Greed is a virtue in the world of Mammon.

Two years later, in October 2008,
 Ásmundsson writes:

Iceland is drowning. Capitalism has gone berserk on this island, having had no control. Now the beast has surrendered, but leaving the nation on its back, badly wounded. Those serving the beast have left, but what will happen to the nation? Noah's ark will carry away the most ambitious and talented ones. …Is this the time of purification, catharsis, with new opportunities?

Icelandic artists have watched their nation drown in greed and vanity, having no say. The nation forgot their God and sold their soul to the devil, with devastating consequences. They tried to shake people up from their greed, without any success - until now. Finally our moment has arrived: we are now entering an era of spiritual awakening where materialism retreats for the mind.
