Reines d'Egypte (Queens of Egypt)
Grimaldi Forum, Monaco
The Grimaldi Family has ruled over the Principality of Monaco since the 13th century. A most densely
populated nation, the Monegasques are also among the most aesthetically and culturally cultivated
people. It is thus inevitable that the Grimaldi Forum would stage an exquisite and dramatic exhibition
on the history and iconography of other monarchical dynasties.
Reines d'Egypte (Queens of Egypt) was inaugurated on July 12th and will remain on view until September
10th, 2008. The show's curator, Christiane Ziegler, has gathered some 250 objects set amidst operatically
grand displays by Francois Payet. The show is a celebration of Egyptian Women - the wives, mothers
and daughters of Pharaohs - who influenced Egypt's history for three millennia. Cleopatra, Nefertiti,
Nefertari, Hatshepsut join a number of female rulers "impatient to reveal themselves to the public."
