Jenny Holzert at Mass MoCA
|
Like Barbara Kruger at
Moderna Museet, Jenny Holzer's recent exhibition is claiming one of the
most massive galleries of the mega-sized Mass MoCA, in North Adams, US.
PROJECTIONS: Selected poems from View with a Grain of Sand and Poems New
and Collected: 1957-1997 is the artist's first interior light projection
in the United States. The piece transforms the huge empty gallery in the
Museum's Building V into "an engaging and provocative meeting place
flooded with words, bodies and light."
The exhibition creates the illusion of spatial fluidity that is
perpetually interwoven through time...and textuality... (

The
Swedish National Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Museet) is
celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To help mark the
institution's demi-centenary, several exhibitions of contemporary
international artists have been installed in the Museum's fantastically
spacious galleries. An exhibition of the American artist Barbara Kruger
claims the greater part of this event. Like Jenny Holzer (who is
enjoying a show of her work at Mass Moca, in North Adams, US), Kruger
uses the graphic power of textuality and euphorism to create works of
iconic presence. Those who are familiar with the artist's work will
especially appreciate the gorgeous umlaut-clad and lyrically rolling
translations of her work ...in Swedish!
