During the coming weekend, Paris will witness its most exciting annual contemporary art event. FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain) 2009 will play host to exhibitors from 21 countries with France (75 galleries), Germany (21 galleries) and the United States (18 galleries) leading the way. From the Grand Palais to Cour Carrée of the Louvre, 210 international galleries will show art works by 4,200 (mostly living!) artists.
And, for the first time, especial galleries at the Grand Palais will exhibit well-established modernist artists who achieved prominence by around the middle of the 20th century. Works are selected by a number of prominent galleries including Acquavella Galleries, Gagosian Gallery, Galerie Krugier & Cie, Thomas Amman, Galerie Beyeler, Galerie Louis Carré & Cie, Richard Gray, L&M Arts and PaceWildenstein.
Another first for FIAC is the participation of some 61 galleries (nearly one third of all exhibitors) that are newcomers to the event. Their partaking in the 36 year-old fair signals a fresh development toward the direction headed by the art market.
In the spirit of the fair’s inclusive attitude toward all forms of aesthetic expression, FIAC has joined forces with the Louvre to present its outdoor projects at the Jardin des Tuileries. The plein air installations and sculptures will be complemented by a series of exploratory programs which examine latest trends in performance practices including dance, music and theatre.
